- "I really wanted to score Helen of Troy. I RARELY call a director and ask for a job, but I made an exception in this case. John Kent Harrison and I had a couple of nice chats on the phone and he seemed to respond well to my music. I knew he was considering a couple of other composers as well as myself. My competititors were competent composers and fine people and I felt I needed an edge so he would choose me over them. I decided to take my lead from the "Bush" administration. I told John he should hire whomever he feels most comfortable with, but he should know that my main competitor, who may seem like a nice guy, was a high-ranking member of "Al-Queida". After an uncomfortable silence I believe he realized I was perhaps exaggerating the truth though I never admitted to my false accusation.
Feel free to use this ploy whenever you think it might be of some benefit to you.
