- Scoring Kull The Conqueror was an unusual experience to say the least. I went in for an interview with the director John Nicolella, and was hired on the spot! That just doesn't happen! Then he told me he wanted me to score the film with heavy metal music! I politely laughed at his little joke and was impressed with his deadpan delivery. Then slowly, it began to dawn on me, he was serious! I stammered, "Are you sure?", "Absolutely" he quickly responded. I thought for a moment or two, swallowed hard and said, "no problem."
Years later, while watching the opening to the World Series and chatting with my dad on the phone, they started playing his beautiful theme to Rudy. "Hey, they're playing your music." I said. Then, right after it finished, they started playing the cue you're listening to now. He then said, "Isn't that your music?". It was a cool moment between us." - J.G. |
